How is Dysport® administered?
Dr. Guida administers Dysport® injections in the office. Typically, patients report only minimal discomfort from Dysport® treatments, so a local anesthetic is not necessary. Occasionally, Dr. Guida may suggest a topical numbing cream for particularly sensitive patients. Dysport® is injected into targeted muscles on the face through a very tiny needle. During the injections, patients may feel slight discomfort for approximately 5 seconds as the Dysport® is injected. Dr. Guida uses ice packs on the face to help minimize discomfort and decrease the chance for bruising.
What can I expect after Dysport® treatment?
Once the treatment is completed, patients are able to return to work or other activities immediately. There’s no need to wait for sedatives or anesthesia to wear off, so patients can drive themselves home. Dr. Guida will recommend that patients refrain from lying down for 3 to 4 hours following treatment. Results will be noticeable within 2 to 8 days after treatment, with maximum effects noted after 2 weeks. The benefits typically last from 3 to 6 months, with most patients needing 2 to 3 treatments per year to maintain the best results. For some patients, a touch-up treatment may be necessary 1 to 2 weeks after the initial treatment.

Are there any disadvantages or long-term side effects to Dysport® treatments?
Dysport® has been used extensively worldwide for nearly 20 years. While every cosmetic procedure carries some risk and uncertainty, Dysport® treatment is normally safe and effective when administered by a qualified physician experienced with facial anatomy. Though extremely uncommon, if too much Dysport® is injected into an area, mild asymmetry or a droopy eyelid may occur. This effect is temporary and fades over a period of several weeks to months. What results can I expect after Dysport® treatment?
With Dysport®, you can expect outstanding results that last from 3 to 6 months. Dysport® can help smooth deep facial lines and creases in the forehead and between the eyebrows, while improving the appearance of laugh lines and crow’s feet around the eyes. Dysport® helps to soften and fill in dynamic wrinkles and lines caused by the contraction of facial muscles. Dysport® does not treat “static” wrinkles that are present when the face is at rest. Cosmetic fillers such as Restylane® and Juvéderm® work well to treat static lines. Dysport® does not tighten skin or mimic the results of facial surgical procedures.
