Facial Implants
Dr. Guida frequently uses facial implants can be used to improve and enhance facial contours. Often, these implants will help provide a more harmonious balance to your facial features so that you feel better about the way you look. There are a variety of implants available, manufactured from a variety of materials. These implants help to strengthen a jawline or bring the chin or cheekbones into balance with the rest of the face.

Best Candidates:

  • Patients who desire to enhance or reconstruct certain aspects of their face, such as their chin, jaw, cheek, or lips. Implants add or restore contour, proportion, and symmetry to the face.
  • Lip implants are popular in women who have noticed that their upper lip has become smaller over time and wish to restore their lips to it's original youthful volume.
  • Patients who feel that they have a "weak" chin often have chin augmentation performed in addition to rhinoplasty or facelift surgery.
  • Patients who feel they lost volume of the mid face or have a flattened appearance to the cheek area often find cheek implants recreate a more youthful look that has slowly disappeared with time.

The Procedure:
Dr. Guida will make a small incision near where the implant will be placed. Then a pocket is made in the facial tissue, often on top of the underlying bony structure, and the implant inserted. The incision is then stitched and a pressure dressing is often placed to help reduce swelling. Chin implants usually require a small incision in a natural crease under the chin and is usually done simultaneously with neck liposuction. Cheek or jaw implants can be done with incisions hidden inside the mouth under the lips.

Recovery Period:
The incision is bandaged or taped, and stitches are removed within one week. Any sutures placed inside the mouth will absorb and do not need to be removed. Most patients are presentable one week after surgery, however may need to use some camouflage makeup to hide any visible bruises. Ice compresses should be applied after surgery to minimize swelling and bruising.

You may return to work and resume normal activity within one week after surgery. You may begin to exercise three to four weeks after surgery. Healing occurs gradually over a period of months and persists well after all of the discoloration has subsided. Avoiding situations that cause swelling are helpful during this phase. Lymphatic Drainage Massage (a special type of medical massage which is available in our office) can enhance the healing process and can be started several days after the procedure.
